Goal

Improve child health outcomes by developing a national network to conduct high quality pediatric clinical trials focused on enhancing and translating evidence for medications used in children.

This will include phase 2 + 3 regulatory trials and pragmatic randomized comparative effectiveness studies using innovative clinical trial designs and existing real-world data.

KidsCAN Trials Services

In 2016, child health researchers and children’s hospital research institutes across the country were surveyed on their clinical trial needs and what they believed the priorities of KidsCAN Trials should be. Respondents indicated that KidsCAN Trials should have a role in the high-level planning of trials and provide assistance with trial management and conduct. Many indicated an urgent need for centralized coordination of Health Canada clinical trial applications. KidsCAN Trials  should be the ‘one-stop shop’ resource for Canadian and foreign Industry sponsors and academic principal investigators to explore feasibility and interest for new pediatric pharmaceutical trials.

KidsCAN will leverage the Canadian infrastructure to provide the following to both industry and investigator initiated trials:

  • Innovative methodology and study design assistance
  • Contract negotiations
  • Access to sites willing and able to participate in clinical trials
  • Regulatory document preparation
  • Data coordinating centre
  • Translating findings into practice across the country
